What Is Power BI?

Power BI is Microsoft’s business intelligence platform for creating dashboards, reports, semantic models and interactive analytics. It connects to Microsoft 365, Excel, Azure, Teams and hundreds of other data sources, helping teams turn raw data into visual business insights.

Honest Review

Power BI is one of the best-value BI tools, especially for organizations already using Microsoft 365 or Azure. The free account is genuinely useful for building reports, and Pro pricing is much lower than many enterprise BI competitors. Integration with Excel, Teams, SharePoint and Fabric makes it easy to adopt inside Microsoft-heavy organizations.

The trade-offs are learning curve and licensing. Basic dashboards are easy, but advanced modeling requires DAX, Power Query and data-modeling skills. Sharing reports requires Pro or Premium licensing, and AI/Copilot or larger enterprise workloads can require Premium or Fabric capacity. Power BI is excellent for Microsoft-centric teams, but less ideal for Mac-first users or agencies needing white-label analytics.

RadarScore reasoning: AI/data quality is strong for BI, modeling and Microsoft Copilot-assisted analytics (8). Value is excellent because pricing is public and relatively affordable (9). Ease of use is good for basic dashboards but harder with DAX and modeling (8). Free-tier quality is strong for individual report creation (8). Support is solid through Microsoft documentation, community and enterprise channels (8).
